Tulane Newspaper Loan Policy, revised February 2005
We generally do not lend out actual paper newspapers. We will photocopy materials for a patron at another institution provided they have a valid citation. The microfilm policy is that we will not lend more than three reels at one time and they must be shipped UPS or FEDEX in a box so that we can trace them in the event that they are lost.
If a library requires more than three reels we ship them three reels at a time and when one set is returned the next set is shipped. Since most of our requests are for regular microforms that are housed in the basement, each request for microforms is usually reviewed/approved by Eric Wedig, head of the Microforms Department, before we ship the material.
The Microforms Department keeps a log indicating which items have been sent out on Interlibrary Loan, the ILL number, the date sent, date due, and the borrowing institution.
In the case of rare newspapers, the Director of the Latin American Library must review each photocopy request, given the brittle condition of many of the paper issues.
