Mission

The Latin American Library is a partner in the educational mission of Tulane University. We aim to help members of the campus community develop their conceptual understanding of information and information sources, as well as to obtain information retrieval and analysis skills appropriate for their individual levels of scholarship and research needs.

Library Research Seminars: Information for Instructors

The Latin American Library is available to design and teach instruction sessions tailored to fit the specific research and curricular needs of your students. Possible session topics include guided hands-on practice with:

  • Effective Search Strategies: Keyword and Subject Headings
  • Identifying and Effectively Using Online Subscription Databases
  • Evaluating and Using Internet Resources
  • Using Special Collections Materials as Primary Sources for Original Research

How can you help make the library session more effective?

Discuss the paper or project with the class before the research session. Students should come prepared with a research topic in mind.

Schedule the session close enough to an assignment's or project's due date so that there is a connection between what students learn in the instruction session and its immediate application.

Attend the library session with your students. You are the best one to answer questions about the assignment and how the resources can help them. Students are usually more attentive when a faculty member is present and participates in the discussion.

Please schedule library sessions at least two weeks in advance.
