Also includes a title index to the selected works, which contains titles in the ooriginal language and English translation, and a general index.

This three-volume work emphasizes the cultural complexities of Latin American and Caribbean cultures, and the idea that every thing humans do is a representation which relates to other practices and behaviors. The volumes cover most of the twentieth century beginning in the 1920s. Cultural concepts and significant people are represented alphabetically. "Keywords" and "see also" references are meant to serve as connectors, which can build an intricate cultural narrative. At the beginning of the text is a "thematic entry list" which includes country and theme headings. Entries over 400 words include a short bibliography intended as a starting point for further research.

This one-volume encylopedia surveys the political histories and realities of nations in the region. Included are chapters on twenty nations and two U.S. commonwealths. Entries include regional political figures, organizations, dynamics, and events. Includes some entries dealing with the nineteenth century, but emphasizes the twentieth century. Each chapter has a country profile including social data, a brief historical overview, heads of state since independence, and a bibliography for further study.
