Edith Bayne Denègre Papers, 1904 - ca.[1913]

COLLECTION GUIDE

Prepared by Ruth Olivera, September 1981; revised by Devin Dittfurth, July 1998.

The Denègre collection is composed of the travel journals and corresponding albums of commercial photographs of Edith Bayne Denègre (1863 - ca. 1936), a native of New Orleans, who between 1904 and 1911 travelled to the St. Louis Fair, Europe, Cuba, and Panama. In a lively and uninhibited style, Mrs. Denègre describes the places she visits (with the occacional taint of the prejudices of her day).
