Hernando Cortés (1485-1547) Collection (Hernán Cortés)
The Latin American Library holds several unique documents associated with Hernan Cortes.
(Collection 27). These documents, include:
- Letter, dated September 9, 1521 ( twenty-seven days after the fall of Tenochtitlán)
- First laws or "Ordenanzas," dated March 20, 1524
- "Praeclara Ferdinãdi..". , his second letter to the King of Spain, printed in Nuremberg in 1524.
- A related document in the collection is the mid-16th century land claim against Martín Cortés by the natives of Atatepec, México (see above).

The Golden Legend (in Kekchi)

The Latin American Library holds a mid-16th century manuscript translation of Jacobus de Voragine's The Golden Legend in the Kekchí language of the Alta Verapaz of Guatemala. This work is a compilation of the lives of the saints originally written in the 13th century.
