Postcard and Stereograph Series

This expanding series (Collection 39) is composed of postcard and stereographic images. Note that a number of these entries are cataloged as rare books.

Barton, Eleanor, collector (1919-1984) Collection

c. 1870-1900. Stereograph views of city, country, agricultural and volcanic scenes in Mexico, South America, Central America and the West Indies; includes scenes of the Panama Canal, Spanish missions in California, the Southwest U.S., and individual photographs of Chihuahua cathedral by F. Parker and Santa Barbara mission by Taber. Stereograph viewer included. 61 pieces. Collection 39(14).

Border Conflict Postcard Collection

1915-1916. Postcards published by Kavanaugh's War Postals depicting scenes from the U.S.-Mexico border conflict, with some action shots of both sides including troops of Pancho Villa. 27 pieces. Collection 39(7).

Guatemala Miscellaneous Postcard Collection

1920-. Postcards of Guatemala, generally grouped according to date or place. Includes views of Guatemala City, Antigua, etc. 15 pieces. Collection 39(6).

King, Arden Ross, Postcard Collection

Late 19th century. Ethnographic views of Indians of Argentina, notably from the Tierra del Fuego, the Chaco Central and the province of Jujuy. 34 pieces. Collection 39(3).

Latin American Postcard Collection

c. 1925. Set of picture postcards in black and white and color, principally of Havana, Cuba, but also of the Canary Islands, Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, Taxco, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. 55 pieces. Collection 39(13).

Mexico Miscellaneous Postcard Collection

1900-. Postcards of Mexico, acquired from different sources, black and white and color, generally grouped according to date or place. Includes views of Mexico City, Teotihuacán, Taxco, etc. 52 pieces, and over 1900 cards. Collection 39(5).

Nicaragua Revolution Postcard Collection

1984. Postcards produced by various agencies of the Sandinista government of Nicaragua, including views of revolutionary slogans on billboards, and one Solentiname painting. 8 pieces. Collection 39(15).

Niehaus, Thomas, Postcard Collection

1983. Color postcards of Venezuela with views of Caracas, Yanoama (Guaica) Indians, Angel Falls, and folk dancers called "Los diablos danzantes." 17 pieces. Collection 39(16).

Sevilla Postcards of Honduras, Collection

1907-1932. Black and white and color postcards of Tegucigalpa and other towns in Honduras. Several have been mailed including some to author Lucila Gamero de Medina. 15 pieces. Collection 39(12).

Spanish-American War, Stereograph Collection

1898-1899. Stereograph views of U.S. troops in Florida preparing to invade Cuba and, after arrival, in Havana and Santiago. Includes images of a cavalry outpost at Santiago, the storming of San Juan Hill, Cuba, the fortification of San Juan, P.R., and North Dakota volunteers quartered in San Antonio church, Philippines. 8 pieces. c. 1950. Color and black and white postcards of archaeological sites in Mexico, and views of people and places in Peru and Trinidad. 19 pieces. Collection 39(8).

Uxmal Postcard Collection

1920s or 1930s. Set of 18 photograph postcard views of the archaeological site of Uxmal, Mexico, in an unrestored condition. 18 pieces. Collection 39(4).

Woodward, Ralph Lee, Guatemala Earthquake Postcard Collection

1875-1930. Postcards showing the destruction in Guatemala City after the earthquakes of December 25 and 29, 1917; and January 24, 1918. Also includes photoprints of postcards of Guatemala as early as 1875. 21 pieces. Collection 39(10).
