Díaz Barriga, Miguel, photographer, Collection

The Miguel Díaz Barriga Collection of Ernesto Licona Photographs contains 43 8" x 10" black and white documentary photographs taken in 1988 as part of Díaz Barriga's anthropology dissertation fieldwork on independent urban organizations in Mexico City. The photographs focus graphically on everyday life in low-income settlements and grassroots political mobilization to improve conditions. Two events receive special attention--a march for the victims of the September 19, 1985 earthquake and a march protesting the October 2, 1968 massacre at Tlatelolco. Organizations of the urban poor participated in both marches. 51 pieces. Collection 44.

1940-1942. These photos were taken during Colonel June's service as Naval Attaché in Guatemala. The prints include an aerial view of Guatemala City, several colonial structures in Antigua and a number of pictures taken around Lake Atitlán. The collection's strength are the scenes of daily rural life which include market days, typical housing and costumes, means of transportation and an indigenous musical group playing traditional instruments. 30 photos. Schuller, Rudolf, Papers
1914-1930. Personal correspondence, notes, manuscripts, photographs, clippings, and printed ephemera, much of which relates to his linguistic studies in Mexico and Central America, with emphasis on the Huasteca Indians. Some materials relate to the Mexican Revolution. Schuller also collected a series of Posada engravings which are cataloged in the collection as a rare book. 1,016 pieces and over 1,000 photographs. South American Glass Image Collection
Early 20th century. 355 glass stereoptical and single-image lantern slides of South America. The images, many of which are unidentified, include a large number of scenes of Argentina and the Iguaçu Falls region, highland scenes of Peru and the Andean region, and some scenes of coastal areas in northern South America. The images are sharp and clear and of high artistic quality. Two examples of the collection are Cristo de los Andes and Train Station, Uspallata, Argentina. Collection 56.

Weinstein, Elizabeth, Mosquito Coast Mission Collection
c.1902-1908. This Collection was assembled by Elizabeth Weinstein, a German missionary on Nicaragua's Mosquito Coast. The photos show village and jungle scenes; the church and school children; the missionaries and ministers and their wives; scenes from Bluefields and the Mosquito Coast. Some photos have annotations on the front or back. Also included is Elizabeth Weinstein's authograph book c. 1903-1912, with poems from her friends, most in German, one in English. Collection 61.
Wulfing, Bettina, photographer, Collection
1985. Photographs of Franciscan churches in Yucatán described by Father Alonso Ponce in 1588 and revisited by Wulfing in 1985. Some of the churches are in modern-day Campeche, which seceded from Yucatán in 1867 and formed its own separate state. Also includes her 29-page descriptive paper. Three examples of Wulfing's photographs are Hocaba, San Francisco, Campeche, San Román, and Homun, San Buenaventura. 48 pieces. Collection 22.
